The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) is set to hold the Taiwan Expo 2018 in Malaysia later this month. That’s the word from TAITRA official Chiu Hui-li in an interview with RTI.

This is the second year that TAITRA is holding the expo in Malaysia. About 200 Taiwanese companies will be taking part in this year’s event, including the Nice Group, a consumer products company, and Dr. Jo, a shower gel and shampoo manufacturer.

Chiu says this year’s expo, as in last year, will focus on areas in which Taiwan has a competitive edge. Those include information and communications technology, eco-friendly products, and medical care.

Chiu says other focuses include fashion, the leisure industry, smart solutions to city life, and even eSports (or competitive video-gaming).

“eSports is a thriving industry in Malaysia. That’s why pre-game warmups were held in various [Taiwanese] cities a couple of months ago. The finals will be held at the Expo,” said Chiu.

Chiu says that about 30 manufacturers of halal-certified products have also signed up for the event, in the hopes of using Malaysia as a springboard for entering other Muslim markets.
